Welcome to Downtown
Detroit’s bustling city center
Bounded by M-10 to the west, Interstate 75 to the north, and I-375 to the east, Downtown Detroit is tucked in the center of the sprawling city, right on the water. Known for its bustling nightlife, young energy, and dense, urban atmosphere, Downtown is an ideal location for a young professional or anybody looking for excitement and urban amenities.
A fire ravaged the downtown area of Detroit in 1805, leaving the space open for redevelopment. The streets were rebuilt in a radial pattern spiraling from the city center. After business began booming in the late 19th and early 20th century, these streets became lined with iconic, historic buildings from world-renowned architects such as Daniel Burnham, Louis Kamper, and the Smith Hinchman & Grylls firm.
Today, Downtown is home to a vibrant urban core. With the most theater seats of any American city east of the Mississippi barring New York and a plethora of great restaurants, bars, and apartments, Downtown appeals to everybody seeking uniquely historical surroundings, electrifying nightlife, and access to the convenient business and working districts of Detroit.
