Pleasant Ridge

Pleasant Ridge is the quintessential aesthetic of a great American community.

Welcome to Pleasant Ridge

Peaceful, classic, and well-preserved in the heart of the Woodward Corridor

A close-knit community located just two miles outside of the city of Detroit, Pleasant Ridge is the quintessential aesthetic of a great American community. Classical homes positioned on manicured lawns alongside tree-lined streets bring character to this small, hidden gem. Pleasant Ridge is well-known for the Pleasant Ridge Historic District and their meticulously preserved, spacious homes, reminiscent of the classic styles of past times.

Pleasant Ridge began as a farm in the early 20th century and was incorporated as a village, and then town, a few years later. In modern times, Pleasant Ridge is the fifth-smallest neighborhood in the state of Michigan, allowing for a level of the community simply not found in many places. Undiscovered by most, Pleasant Ridge is one of the best places in Metro Detroit to live and grow.

What to Love

  • Pleasant Ridge is home to several amenities, such as a dog park and a pool.
  • The Pleasant Ridge Historic District has allowed for the preservation of some of the most beautiful homes in the Detroit area.
  • Manicured lawns and tree-lined streets have created a picturesque setting, perfect for neighborhood walks.

Local Lifestyle

Located just 11 miles north of downtown Detroit, this small enclave is not far from most modern-day conveniences. Situated just off of Woodward Avenue and Interstate 696, it is easy to get around to most places. Quiet days at home are enjoyed in one of the local neighborhood parks or grabbing a late breakfast at the local Whistle Stop Diner. Other major attractions, like the Detroit Zoo, are located in adjacent districts and are easy to visit.

Dining, Shopping, & Entertainment

The Whistle Stop Diner is a community favorite, cooking up breakfast, brunch, coffee, and other small bites seven days a week. Classics such as eggs Benedict and avocado bacon burgers are always crowd-pleasers. On the weekends, The Crabber, their variation of the eggs Benedict made with a crab cake and sriracha sauce, is another favorite at this old-fashioned diner.

For eats a little later on in the day, Jim Brady’s Detroit is another great choice. A winner of the Metro Times’ Best of Detroit awards, Jim Brady’s is the home of the original “Charlie Brown” bacon and Swiss burger and has been serving locals and visitors alike since 1954. The menu pairs well with their exceptional cocktail and spirit list.

In addition to their already-walkable streets, Pleasant Ridge is home to community parks with dog spaces, playgrounds, a pool, and walking pathways. Best Park and Gainsboro Park are both conveniently located within the neighborhood.

Things To Do

Pleasant Ridge is a charming little enclave within the buzzing Detroit metropolitan area. Its central location and close proximity to major city freeways make it easy to get from point A to B. Locals are lucky enough to have quiet solitude in their community without any of the noise which may come from larger events in nearby districts. However, these other events are only a short drive away. Nearby major attractions include Rackham Golf Course, the Detroit Zoo, several museums, and more.

Schools

Pleasant Ridge residents are fortunate enough to be located close to some of Detroit’s greatest schools. Just a few of these are:

  • Ferndale Public Schools, preschool-12th grade; a Montessori school setting is offered for students in kindergarten through second grade
  • Berkley Schools, kindergarten-12th grade; the CASA program (Center for Advanced Studies and the Arts) is offered, providing students with advanced placement courses, an exceptional visual arts curriculum, and an advanced dance program
