Only a hop, skip, and a jump from the nationally-acclaimed University of Detroit Mercy, the inviting, friendly atmosphere of the University District makes it the perfect place for both retirees and, especially, young professionals to flock to.
 
Once farmland in the township of Greenfield, Michigan, back in the 1830s, University District began to take its shape as prime residential living in the mid-1800s, though it wasn’t annexed by the city of Detroit until 1916. Famously, the area was home to an eclectic mix - many musicians, as well as realtors and senior partners at law firms and insurance agencies. 
 
Today, the auspicious beginnings of the University District are on full display. The elaborate stone patterns and marble exteriors catch the eye, while the homes themselves — most of which were built during the ‘golden age of housing’ — are absolutely stunning. Though the area is populated by predominantly Tudor homes, other styles such as Romanesque, Italianate, and contemporary all contribute to the attractive ambiance throughout the neighborhood.
